How Does It Work?

The idea of online DVD rental was pioneered by Netflix. Both it and Blockbuster operate in a very similar manner, and have moved into also renting Blu-Ray as this format has become more popular.

Signup

To begin using either either Blockbuster or Netflix, you must first signup for the service. Each provider offers a free trial, so this is easy to do. If you continue past the free trial, you are billed on a monthly basis. There are many plans available - the prices are here.

Select Movies

Once you signed up, you will be given access to the website of the service you have chosen. They have huge selections of movies and TV shows, and will let you browse or can help you find what you want to rent. You choose as many discs as you want, and they are placed in your queue. This list can be added to, reordered, or deleted from at any time.

Receive Movies

Both Blockbuster and Netflix have shipping locations all over the country. In most places, you can expect to receive your first movie within 1-2 days. You will receive whatever number of discs your plan allows, and the shipping is always free.

Watch Movies and Return

After you receive your discs, you will have as much time as you like to watch them. Once you are through with the movie, you simply put it back into its included mailer, and drop it into your mailbox. There is no charge for shipping, and you can check online to see when it has arrived at the service (which usually takes ~1 day). They will then immediately send out your next disc.
